Doc: The Shelter

The local reception centre for homeless in Lausanne has insufficient capacity to accommodate the large numbers of people hoping to find shelter every evening.  Who can spend the night in the shelter, and who should stay outside, in the harsh Swiss winter cold?  Those on duty at the shelter have the difficult task of “triaging the poor”.

Director Fernand Melgar, himself a second-generation immigrant, shows what it is like to spend the winter nights out on the street, in train stations and coffee stalls. The documentary on immigration problems in Switzerland mirrors many European cities.

Movies that Matter + extra’s

De documentaries in this year’s Open Air Cinema we can offer you because of a corporation with Movies that Matter. Even better: before screening starts you can enjoy a short extra! The film will be introduced with a column by Bahram Sadeghi (Iran, 1967). Sadeghi is an Amsterdam based freelance TV director and host. He also writes for various Dutch magazines and organizes debates.
