2014 is the year of major international crises. Media attention is focused on violent conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Gaza and Ukraine, and the ebola epidemic in western Africa. Meanwhile, almost forgotten, Afghanistan is slowly recovering from more than three decades of conflicts.
Early December, ministers from many countries will gather in London to discuss Afghanistan’s future. Civil society organizations worldwide are joining forces to put Afghanistan in the limelight through the campaign Do Not Forget Afghanistan. The goal is that international commitment for humanitarian and development activities will be sustained, now that Afghanistan is slowly getting on its feet.
In the Humanity House we are taking stock of 13 years of international involvement in Afghanistan. The documentary ‘Do Not Forget Afghanistan´ will be shown and speakers reflect on what has been achieved and what are the challenges for the future.
About the speakers
Justine Piquemal (director of ACBAR, the main NGO network in Afghanistan) and Thijs Berman (former Member of European Parliament for the Labour Party and head of the recent EU election observing mission to Afghanistan). The meeting will be facilitated by Rick van der Kleij.
