Heritage Day

Open Monumentendag (Heritage Day) is an annual event held every second weekend of September. Thousands of historical buildings and sites in the Netherlands open their doors to the public, free of charge. The Humanity House, located in a historic nationally listed building, is one of them! The theme of this year’s Heritage Day is Travelling.

Before visiting the historic building itself, you will be treated to a sneak preview of the museum. In a much-shortened version of an exciting voyage of discovery that usually lasts 45 minutes, you are introduced to our special, impressive museum, and experience at first-hand what it is like to be refugee.

About the building

The Humanity House is a historic nationally listed building. It was built around 1645 and has since undergone numerous alterations and renovations. In 1905 for example, display windows were fitted to the front façade and in 1984, a single-storey extension was added to the rear of the building. The former coach house in the garden is open to visitors.

The Humanity House will be taking part in Open Monumentendag on Sunday 14 September. Click here for more information about Open Monumentendag.
