HILAC-lecture: Changing battlefields

At every HILAC-lecture a renowned legal expert elaborates on a specific challenge regarding humanitarian law in relation to war and discusses this topic with the audience. This time Robin Geiß will address the challenges concerning new military technologies.

Autonomous weapon systems, cyber war, the militarization of space and other technologies lead to new challenges for International Humanitarian Law. According to Robin Geiß, these challenges raise fundamental questions about the applicability of International Humanitarian Law. During this lecture, Geiß will discuss the biggest challenges and how the international legal order should respond these challenges.

About Robin Geiß

Robin Geiß has a long lasting career as scholar of international law. He holds the Chair of study program International Law and Security  at the University of Glasgow and is Director of the Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security (GCILS). He is a Visiting Professor and faculty member of the Paris School of International Affairs(PSIA) at Sciences Po, a former Legal Adviser to the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) and currently serves on the Research Advisory Boardof the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik(SWP) in Berlin. He is Co-Editor of the Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law, a member of Lieber Prize Committee of the American Society of International Lawand the German National Committee on International Humanitarian Law.
