Discussion: How to avoid lost generations?

How can NGOs avoid ‘lost generations’ by improving the link between Relief Aid and Development Assistance? The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, field experts and academics discuss it: come and join us!

Conflict and displacements are generating increased humanitarian needs. Children and young people are disproportionately affected by prolonged humanitarian crises. The debate looks at why the emergency sector operates independently from the development sector, and whether paying more attention to resilience of children and young people will resolve this divide.

The largest gap in the literature and research concerns the translation of LRRD to what it actually means in practice for the affected population from (protracted) crisis. Representatives from the Ministry, private donors, academics and NGO field staff may each have their own perspective. The debate facilitates discussion between these different stakeholders to formulate guidelines and recommendations that can be taken to the World Humantarian Summit in Istanbul in May.

About the speakers

The debate will be kicked of with a skype interview with academic Simon Levine (Research Fellow at the Humanitarian Policy group at ODI, London).

Further with Hans van den Hoogen (senior humanitarian advisor Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Annelies Withofs (program manager at IKEA Foundation) and Bibiane van Mierlo (field expert, technical advisor HealthNet TPO).

The discussion is facilitated by Bahram Sadeghi. Bahram is a freelance TV director and journalist.
