iAfrica Film Festival: Short films

During the entire festivals we will play three short films continuously in out exposition hall. Watch them and be surprised.

Adamt (Ethiopia)

A young Ethiopian composer and drummer struggles with a traumatic experience from his childhood. Then a deaf spirit appears in his life and inspires him to channel his memories in a new direction.

Written and directed by Zelalem Woldemariam.

Twaaga (Burkina Faso)

Burkina Faso in 1987 is a country in the throes of a revolution. Manu is an eight year-old who loves comics. When his big brother Albert decides to take part in a magic ritual to become invincible, Manu realises there are real powers to rival those of his comic book superheroes.

Directed by Cédric Ido, Twaaga is a film about a young child’s superhero obsession, explicitly set against the background of (and contrasted with) Thomas Sankara’s revolution in Burkina Faso.

Intellectual Scum (Kenya)

Intellectual Scum is a controversial film based on an online article, written by the Zambian author Field Ruwe in 2012, which went viral.

It is a dialogue between the author and a white man who claims that the African intellectuals are lazy, while the illiterate African poor works hard. This is how the white man explains poverty.

A film which will leave nobody indifferent.

Dericted by Njue Kevin.
