The Marshall Islands vs. the Nine Nuclear Nations

The Marshall Islands may seem like a tropical paradise, but in reality it is a big nuclear disaster. Serving as nuclear testing ground, where multiple nuclear bombs were detonated, the islands’ population suffers the consequences of health, cultural and environmental damage.

In order to prevent a nuclear war, the Non-Proliferation Treaty was adopted in 1968. This treaty obliges the State Parties to disarm, which the Nuclear States are still not adhering to. This is why the Marshall Islands have taken matters into their own hands and filed a lawsuit against nine nuclear-armed nations: the United States of America, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Their goal: complete nuclear disarmament.
