The sustained fight against Ebola

One year ago, on the 6th of April 2014, The World Health Organisation confirmed the outbreak of Ebola in Western Africa. Since then, more than 24.000 people are infected with the virus and over 10.000 died. At first, the media reported daily about this humanitarian crisis, but currently it is almost silent. Nevertheless, the outbreak is not solved jet.

To end this crisis in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, the Netherlands should do more than just offer humanitarian aid. This according to Samuel Kofi Woods II, former Minister of Labour and Public Affairs of Liberia. On the 2nd of April, he talked about this crisis with the Dutch parliament. In this lecture, directed to the humanitarian sector, Woods will indicate what the Netherlands can do now and in the future to fight against Ebola and to increase (economic) development in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. How can we prevent future outbreaks, and how can we have a more effective response once they occur?

About the Speaker
Samuel Kofi Woods II (human rights lawyer, ambassador of Save the Children, and former Minister of Labour and Public Affairs of Liberia). Moderator is Melle Brinkman (Disaster Risk Management coördinator Plan Nederland).
