Opening exhibition: Cartooning Syria

Stories and poetry

The exhibition Cartooning Syria shows a personal and political picture of the uprising and war in Syria through the eyes of Syrians. During the opening of the exhibition, three cartoonists share their stories behind the cartoons.

On March 15, 2011, the demonstrations in Syria started. Eight years later, the world seems to lose attention to Syria and especially the stories about the uprising have gone to the background. During the opening, the Syrian investigative journalist Maïs Katt, talks with the cartoonists about the past and current stories of the war in Syria. The Palestinian Syrian poet Ghayath Almadhoun contributes from his work in which the disrupted relationship with Syria is a central theme. And the new book ‘Cartooning Syria’ is presented.

Afterwards, there is the opportunity to talk and have a drink and there are Syrian snacks from restaurant Layali-Al-Sham.
