One Day After Peace

Docu + Discussion

This evening we watch the documentary 'One Day After Peace' that follows the personal search of Robi Damelin who lost her son David to a Palestinian sniper's bullet. How do you forgive the person who shot your child?

Robi travels to her native South Africa to learn from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that was set up after the apartheid regime. She talks to the perpetrators and victims of apartheid. What methods were applied to bring closure to the past? Can Israel and Palestine learn from this? And is forgiveness and reconciliation possible after so much enmity?

After the film we talk with historian and philosopher Michael Onyebuchi Eze about the film and about Ubuntu; the philosophy that underpinned the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
