On OneWorld.nl and in OneWorld Magazine, you can see that our lives are linked to people all around the world. And vice versa, how that which happens there, affects us here. How does this reciprocal influencing work? How can we positively influence these processes? What can we ourselves do? OneWorld.nl is the biggest Dutch website about global solidarity and sustainability. The free OneWorld magazine is published eight times a year.

Eritreans who flee to the Netherlands undergo a hellish route.  Following a shoot-to-kill policy at the border, torture camps in the Sinai desert,  detention centres in Libya and a perilous  journey over the Mediterranean Sea, they arrive in Europe.

And the misery does not stop there. They must cross the European borders unnoticed in order to request asylum in their land of choice. OneWorld travelled with a group of Eritrean refugees from Milan to Paris and discovered that they choose their route themselves, with the help of compatriots who previously fled. Often, smugglers are not used.  OneWorld also took many photos and film footage of the European portion of the route.

OneWorld made a map in order to follow the route and a to get a unique portrayal of the Eritrea-route. The production “Enkele reis Nederland (One-way ticket to the Netherlands)” received a nomination for the “Mercur Reportage” of the year.
