Six unique images from Northern Iraq

partner

Cordaid

Cordaid delivers empowerment, security and opportunity while building flourishing communities. They invest in social impact and have a strong track record to support their methods. Cordaid makes healthcare accessible using resultbased financing, they build peace by supporting women’s leadership, create community security, deliver food security, change disaster cycles.

The work of war photographer Eddy van Wessel is often characterized by raw, intriguing black and white photos. In 2012, he won the Silver Camera for a photo series of the uprising in Syria. Van Wessel travelled to Northern Iraq for Cordaid’s partner CRS. He visited abandoned, unfinished buildings being repaired with Cordaid’s help.

The war in Iraq leaves a trail of victims and destruction. Houses, schools and hospitals under construction remain empty because of it. Homeless Yazidi families look for shelter and live in houses with broken pipes and sewage, without windows or furnishings. With help from Cordaid, window frames and doorposts are placed and the inhabitants have access to working plumbing and clean drinking water.
