Walk along in the Night of the Refugee 2015!

Partner

Stichting Vluchteling (Netherlands Foundation for Refugees)

Worldwide, there are over 50 million people fleeing from war, violence and oppression. Stichting Vluchteling, as emergency aid agency, offers help to refugees and uprooted people all over the world. In critical situations, Stichting Vluchteling sees to direct aid, such as shelter, medical care, relief goods, food, clean drinking water and sanitary provisions.

On Thursday May 14th at 12 midnight, the starting shot will sound on the Erasmusbrug in Rotterdam. On this night, hundreds of people will walk 40 kilometres from Rotterdam to The Hague for emergency help to refugees. You can still register but do so on time!

Naturally, you can walk the Night of the Refugee alone but the challenge is much more fun with friends, family and colleagues!  You can sign-up with your own team or join an existing team.

Such as Team BF of Bureau Frontline from Rotterdam: they are at the top of the ranks at the moment with no less than 22 participants. In their daily lives, the colleagues encounter families who have fled. They are touched by the sad stories of parents and children and want to do their part in this way. Walk with them or sponsor this team.

Last year, Team De Tweede Generatie (Team Second Generation) walked the nocturnal charity drive  with  80 team members and together they collected the most money for emergency help to Syrian refugees: more than 30 thousand euro!  This year, Team De Tweede Generatie is walking again and you can join them.

A Night of the Refugee children’s walk will be held this year for the first time. Children between the ages of six and thirteen will walk a route of 5 kilometres through Rotterdam to collect money for refugees.

The children’s walk takes place on May 14th beginning with a starting programme from 4 p.m. onwards in Rotterdam complete with a multitude of activities.  The charity walk will happen from 5 to 7 p.m. The participants will be welcomed with a warming-up to loosen up their muscles. In addition, there will be live music at the start and finish. Half-way along the route, there will be a resting spot where the children may take a rest and where they will get something to eat and drink. At the finish, all the children will receive a medal as proof that they participated in the Night of the Refugee Kids.
