Women and girls play a role in violent conflicts, as victims, but also as important actors in preventing and solving wars, and building peace and promoting human rights. In honour of the 14th anniversary about the UN resolution of women in armed conflicts and peace processes (Resolution 1325), we will have a closer look at the value of this resolution for Women, Peace and Security within the Netherlands.
Through the National Action Plan on ‘1325’, the Netherlands supports women in conflict, with an emphasis on women’s leadership in conflict areas. But what does the resolution 1325 means in the Dutch context, specifically for refugees, women peace activists and human rights defenders coming from conflict areas? How does 1325 affect Dutch responsibilities to protect women refugees within the Netherlands? How does 1325 support leadership of women peace activists in the Netherlands and what does this mean for peace in their country of origin? What is going well and what can be done better?
