“It’s all about innovation”, says Caroline Figuères. “We believe ICT helps people take charge of their own development. Access to the right information is a potent tool in the fight against poverty.” Caroline is currently managing director of the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) in The Hague.  IICD specialises in information and communication technologies (ICT) like radio, internet or mobile phones as a tool for development.

About the speaker

Caroline Figuères worked in short missions in developing countries and in Europe, she attained insight into international water and environmental problems. Consequently, she became head of the department Urban Water and Sanitation for UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. Since 2008 Caroline is managing director by IICD.
