Humanity House will close its doors permanently on November 1
In December it will be ten years since the Humanity House in The Hague opened its doors. A contemporary museum that makes complex themes around peace and conflict insightful and tangible. With special exhibitions and public events, Humanity House has been a stage for hundreds of stories, conversations and encounters over the past decade about what it means to be displaced, to flee or when your rights as a human being are violated. More than 214,000 people have visited the museum since the opening, including 114,000 school and college students.
The corona crisis has hit Humanity House hard; from March, the income from visits and rentals came to a standstill. In recent months, the Humanity House has already taken difficult decisions and implemented a reorganization and staff cutbacks. In addition, Humanity House received a positive assessment in the spring, but a negative advice from the Council for Culture for granting a subsidy from the Arts Plan. Unfortunately, it took too long for the museum to be able to complete all contractual obligations in time for the final decision on the 2021-2024 Arts Plan by the municipality of The Hague, which was postponed until mid-November. Unfortunately, this meant that Humanity House had to close the doors of the museum on November 1.

Together with the team, I am proud of what has been achieved in recent years: all encounters, conversations, exhibitions and education programs have hopefully led to a different perspective. We would like to thank our visitors, speakers, students, partners and funds for their courage to discuss difficult topics with each other in order to make differences. ”
