What we do with your personal data
Your personal data is stored and processed by us so that we can carry out activities in the area of customer relations, product and service development and customer research in order to provide you with the best possible service. This might involve sending you a purchased e-ticket, evaluating an educational visit, improving our site, or sending you our newsletter.
In processing or analysing data, we may deem it necessary to use the services of third parties. In such cases, you can be sure that Humanity House uses processing contracts to impose requirements on third parties concerning the careful use of personal data. In this way, we ensure that your data is only used for those purposes for which you have made it available.
Personal data
Privacy relates to personal data that can be traced to the individual to whom it belongs. You consciously provide some data as a website visitor, while other data is collected without your knowledge. Below you will find an overview of the personal data that we collect and the purpose for which we use it.
Data that you provide
If you purchase a museum ticket or book a programme online, we ask you for your name and email address so that we can issue the ticket and provide information concerning changes or cancellations (see also the heading ‘Emails’).
To sign up for one of our newsletters, you must provide us with your name and email address. Registration is processed by an external party called MailChimp. At the bottom of each email, you can unsubscribe for future emails if you so wish.
If you visit our museum, we ask you for your name, gender, postcode and email address. We use these details to produce a registration form and identity card that will become part of the ‘journey of discovery’ in our museum. In addition, after your visit we send you one email with stories, background information and news to deepen your understanding and offer more context. We use your anonymous data for customer surveys to gain more insight into our museum visitors.
If you rent a room, the details of your booking are stored and used for drawing up the rental agreement, evaluating the service and processing the booking.
If you book an educational programme, the data entered during the booking process is used to prepare the visit, evaluate the programme and/or process the booking.
Emails
If you purchase a ticket online for one of our programmes, we can email you with information such as transport options, programme changes or cancellations. We will not send you any messages unrelated to your visit. If you wish to receive information about related programmes, you can authorize us by using the opt-in option for the newsletter.
Data collected automatically
General visitor data is collected through the Humanityhouse.org website without identifying individual visitors. The personal data that we collect on our server concerns your activity on our website, IP address, internet browser and type of device. We analyse this data in order to improve our website and make it more secure. We never provide data to third parties.
Humanity House makes use of functional, analytical and tracking cookies. Cookies are small data files that a website provider installs on your device and with which information concerning your website visit or about your device is collected or stored. Humanity House uses cookies to remember your settings and preferences. On your first visit to our website, we inform you about these cookies and ask for your permission to install them. You can opt out of cookies by setting your internet browser in such a way that it does not store cookies. In addition, you can change your browser settings to delete all information previously stored. You can also install a browser plugin such as Privacy Badger to block certain cookies.
Our website uses Google Analytics. This registers your website use and stores information about it. We use this data to compile visitor statistics about our website and improve its functioning. Google makes this information available to third parties if legally required or if third parties process this data on behalf of Google. By using this website, you consent to data processing by Google.
Security
Humanity House takes your data protection seriously and takes adequate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorized access, undesired disclosure and unauthorized amendment. In the event of a security breach, we will inform the appropriate authorities, as legally required. In addition, we will contact those concerned within the legally required period.
How long we store your personal data
Humanity House does not store your personal data for longer than strictly necessary to achieve the purpose(s) for which the data is collected.
We use a retention period of seven years for client details relating to ticket purchases, rented rooms and educational programmes, in order to comply with our obligations under the General Tax Act.
If you sign up for our newsletter, you will receive it for as long as you wish, and until then we store your name and email address.
We use a retention period of six months for client details of museum visitors. We analyse the details (anonymized) every half year to gain more insight into our museum visitors.
Google retains data collected through Google Analytics cookies for 26 months.
No personal data
Should you wish to purchase tickets for the museum or a programme without providing personal data, you can do so at the reception desk at Humanity House. This is only possible if a programme is not sold out.
Would you like to prevent cookies being installed? Then consider installing a browser plugin such as Privacy Badger, which blocks the instalment of cookies.
Rights
You have the right to access your personal data. You may submit a request to this effect to info@humanityhouse.org. Should the overview supplied by us contain any inaccuracies, you can request that we amend the data. Moreover, you have the right to have your data removed from our system.
