Together with Het Nutshuis we open two new exhibitions with work from graduating photography students of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. Both Het Nutshuis as Humanity House present work from four photographers. This evening we celebrate the opening, starting in our museum and finishing at Het Nutshuis.
Our exhibition is called I See Peace. Peace has reigned in the Netherlands since the end of World War II. But what does ‘peace’ mean in a society that seems to be growing more polarized? And what does peace look like for individuals? The students reflected on this and explored what peace symbolizes for them. The exhibition ‘I See Peace’ is the outcome of this search. The four artists are Marwan Bassiouni, Malou Bumbum, Daniël Siegersma and Maya van Wingerden.
The theme of Het Nutshuis is ‘What About a Group Portrait?’. Since September Tamar van Haastrecht, Trees Heil, Hanane El Ouardani and Steven de Kok have been wracking their brains about changing society. It is not unthinkable that like Japan, we will soon be living in a society where more than one in every three people are over 65. Having realised this, the four photographers decided to reveal the hidden corners of society, corners that are largely out of sight. They focused their lenses on some of our smaller sub-cultures, bringing them to life in a variety of ways.

The exhibition I See Peace can be visited from Wednesday the 20th of December until Sunday the 4th of February at Humanity House. The exhibition What About a Group Portrait? can be visited from Wednesday the 20th of December until Saturday the 3rd of February at Het Nutshuis (Mo-Sa 11.00 – 16.00).
