Hoessein Alkisaei: Visual Human Rights

The Visual Human Rights exhibition visualizes the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights prepared by the United Nations (UN).

Photographer Hoessein Alkisaei uses organizations, foundations, individuals who deal with human rights on a daily basis and true stories as an inspiration.

Alkisaei started this project in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice. He puts people and humanity at the center of his photography by portraying stories and situations in a raw, honest and tangible way.

The Visual Human Rights project aims to create awareness about how human rights are implemented, protected and violated. All photos are based on real situations and stories, without editing, posing or theatrical techniques. Everything remains as natural, honest and realistic as possible.

The photographer invites individuals and organizations to get involve with the project in order to demonstrate the contrast between the different interpretations and implementations of the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. More information can be found on the website.

About the makers

Hoessein Alkisaei was trained in 2011 by photographer and winner of World Press Photo, Vincent Mentzel. From that moment on, Hoessein has been developing his own style of photography, which puts people and humanity central, by portraying stories and situations in a manner that is as raw, honest, and tangible. It is key for him to minimise the use of editing, or any form of posing techniques. Hoessein is founder of Visual Human Rights. The first exhibition took place at the World Forum in The Hague, The Netherlands, during October 2018. Follow Hoessein on Instagram for more photos.
